THE RULES Rule 1. All franchise owners shall bring $ 60 to the annual draft to pay the commissioner(s) for the cost of putting together the weekly reports (software, admin., e-mail, postage & FAX). They shall pay nothing throughout the season for each roster move (i.e. free agent pick up or trade), which is limited to only four (4) per calendar month - with unlimited substitution from reserve to active and vice versa. Rule 2. The draft shall last 16 rounds. The selecting order shall be randomly determined, and the order shall be reversed for the even-numbered rounds. Each franchise owner shall select players from the following categories: quarterback, running back, wide receiver/tight end, kicker and defense/special team. Rule 3. Each franchise owner shall submit a starting lineup of one quarterback, two running backs, three wide receivers/tight ends, one kicker and one defense/special team to the (chief) commissioner prior to the kickoff of the first NFL game of the week (sometimes a Thursday or Saturday). If no lineup is submitted, it shall be assumed to be the same as the previous week's lineup. Rule 4. Touchdowns shall be worth six points, touchdown passes worth four points, interceptions worth minus one point, field goals worth three points, missed field goals worth minus one point, extra point conversions worth one point, missed extra point conversions worth minus one point. Two-point conversions, whether run, caught or thrown, shall be worth two points. Passing yardage is worth 1 point for every 20 yards. Rushing yardage is worth 1 point for every 10 yards. Receiving yardage is worth 1 point for every 10 yards. Defensive scoring: safety is worth two points; interceptions, fumble recoveries, sacks, and blocked kicks are all worth one point each. Defensive scoring: points given up during the game: 0 - 10 = 5 points, 11 - 20 = 4 points, 21 - 30 = 3 points, and 31 - 40 = 2 points. Defensive scoring: total yards given up during the game: 0 - 100 = 5 points, 101 - 200 = 4 points, 201 - 300 = 3 points, and 301 - 400 = 2 points. Special team scoring: total yards gained during the game: 1 - 100 = 1 points, 101 - 200 = 2 points, 201 - 300 = 3 points, 301 - 400 = 4 points, and over 401 yards = 5 points. Rule 5. Players are eligible to receive points when they line up at other positions. If a player lines up at least once during the regular season at a position, he is eligible at that position for the rest of the season. For example, last season Kordell Stewert was eligible as a QB and WR. Players who are on both the offense and defense, like Deion Sanders, receive points only for their offense; in other words, Deion receives no points for an interception or for scoring a TD after a defensive fumble recovery. Rule 6. The defense/special teams "player," unlike the field players, is an entire NFL team. It scores whenever any player on that NFL team returns a kickoff, punt, interception, opponents' fumble or blocked punt for a touchdown. The defense/special teams player also scores on safeties and fake punts and fake field goals ( Note: be warned there is a slim chance that points on fake punts and field goals can cause disputes in scoring; it is often hard or impossible to tell from a newspaper boxscore that a touchdown came on a trick play.) Rule 7. If two or more franchise owners wish to trade players, they may do so. A trade becomes official when all parties involved have contacted the commissioner and verified the terms of the deal; if there is more than one commissioner, a trade becomes official when all parties involved have contacted at least two commissioners and verified the terms of the deal. No trades shall be permitted for the rest of the season after the kickoff of the first NFL game during the twelfth week of the regular season. Rule 8. If a player is not on a fantasy team, he is considered to be a free agent available on the waiver wire. The worst teams have first dibs on available free agents until noon on Thursday, with YTD points scored being the primary, and YTD points against the secondary tiebreaker for teams with the same record (a coin flip is the last tiebreaker, if necessary). For tie breaker purposes, the team with the least points scored (or most points against) has a waiver wire selection advantage. After noon on Thursday, it's first-come first serve until the kickoff of the first NFL game of the week. An acquisition is initiated by an e-mail, telephone or FAX message to the commissioner(s); if there is more than one commissioner, at least two commissioners must receive a message. Time stamps of e-mails, phone answering machines, voice mail messages or faxes will determine the order of receipt. If a dispute arises, the ruling of the commissioner(s) will prevail. For each player obtained via waivers, a player must be released (he can then be picked up by other teams the following week). All franchise owners must be informed a player has been waived before any team can acquire the player. Signed free agents must stay on the roster four days. Unlike trades, waiver moves are allowed the entire season, including the playoffs. Rule 9. Teams formed on draft day will constitute the roster for the seasons first week. Players cannot be picked up on the waiver wire until the second week of the season. For purposes of this league: a new "week" starts each Tuesday and a new "month" starts the first Tuesday of each calendar month. Rule 10. Any trade that is agreed upon and intended purpose is to strengthen one team at the expense of the other can be overturned by the league commissioner(s) or a simple majority vote of the owners. The veto of the commissioner(s) may be overturned by a majority vote of the owners. Rule 11. The schedule and conference/division alignments shall be prepared by the league commissioner(s). Depending on league size, the teams shall play a 14 to 15 week regular season, with the final weeks of the NFL season reserved for a single-elimination playoff tournament for the teams finishing with the best regular season records (see amendment 2). The commissioner(s) shall present a schedule on draft day; if any owner(s) lose their franchise (i.e. blow off the draft, or drop dead and cannot be replaced) the schedule will be amended by the commissioner(s) by opening day of the season. Rule 12. The following is the tiebreaking scheme should two or more teams have identical records at the end of the season. Ties inside divisions shall be broken first (with the winner of that tie-breaker advancing to the next tie, if applicable). Tied games count as half a win and half a loss (7-5-2 is the same as 8-6-0). 1) Most points scored. 2) Record against other teams in the tie (only if all have played each other an equal number of games). 3) Fewest points allowed. 4) Most points scored against other teams in the tie (only if all have played each other an equal number of games). 5) Fewest points allowed against other teams in the tie (only if all have played each other an equal number of games). 6) Coin flip. Rule 13. For play-off games, in the event the teams tie, the tiebreaker is total offensive yardage of the starting field players (excluding the defense/special team "player"). The next tiebreaker, if necessary, is the total combined distance of all touchdowns scored by the starting field players (excluding the defense/special team "player"). If the tie still stands, the home team advances. Rule 14. The league commissioner(s) shall prepare reports weekly and distribute them in a timely manner to all franchise owners. Rule 15. Team names will be assigned by the commissioner(s). Input will be eagerly accepted by all owners and a decision rendered. Rule 16. Rules may be revised or added during the off-season with majority approval of the franchise owners. Rules may be revised or added during the season only by unanimous vote of all team owners. AMENDMENTS Amendment 1. For the 1997-98 NFL season, Ed Sayer is the chief commissioner and Erick Becker will be the co-commissioner. The principle purpose of the co-commissioner is to take messages regarding player personnel actions (line ups, trades) in the event the chief commissioner is out of town and has not confirmed actions in a timely basis. In other words, a back up system to avoid possible misunderstandings. Amendment 2. The Lady Luck Fantasy Football League will have two (2) divisions. The fantasy league season will be the first 14 weeks of the NFL regular season. For week 15 of the NFL regular season, the top four (4) teams from each division will be seeded by record (ties broken by rule 12) in a single elimination tournament bracket. The #9 team and below will be assigned into the "toilet bowl" tourney- just so everyone will still have games to play. For the first round of the playoffs: the #1 team from each division will be the home team with a 12 point advantage playing the #4 team of their division and the #2 team from each division will be the home team with a 10 point advantage playing the #3 team of their division. All teams will advance (the winners in the winners bracket, and the losers in a consolation, "just for fun", bracket). For the second round of the FF Super Bowl Championship tournament, the highest remaining seed in each game will be the home team with a 10 point advantage. The winners advance, the losers will play in the Grey Cup the following week for third place. The final games played on week 17 will have no advantage to either team. |
